OVERVIEW:

Job Title: Paving Superintendent

Location: Transient / Travel Required with the RC Paving Crew

Job Type: Full-Time

Work Schedule: Determined by project schedule

Performance Evaluated by: Vice President of Operations

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: *RC will gladly provide reasonable accommodation to assist in performing these essential job functions so long as it does not create an undue burden.

  • The duties involve being the direct liaisons between the field crews/activities, and subcontractors.
  • Responsible for the production aspects of the work producing quality work that is constructed consistent with the standards outlined in the project's contract documents.
  • Performing the work in a timely and cost-effective manner and maintaining a work environment that is safe and continuously kept clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for establishing a professional work environment that includes fostering a positive atmosphere, promoting proactive and effective communication, facilitating problem-solving, and minimizing and resolving conflict constructively.
  • Administering client-specific programs, such as CQC, Safety, Environmental Stewardship, etc.
  • Conducting and/or attending pre-construction, progress, and other projects and staff meetings.
  • Conducting and/or participating in regularly held meetings involving R.C. staff.
  • Meeting with client representatives regularly to discuss the status of projects, to proactively identify and resolve problems, and to ensure that the client is kept knowledgeable about the status of the work.
  • Maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and E-mail correspondence.
  • Providing timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups, such as Accounting and HR.
  • Directing and managing the workloads of supporting staff to include training, mentoring, and follow-up.
  • Participating in and encouraging staff to seek out life-long learning opportunities and professional development.

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain OSHA 30 hour and current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Maintain Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience surveying, construction staking, GPS, Total Station, and/or machine control.
  • Minimum 5 years managing crews preferred
  • Army Corps of Engineers experience preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, MS Office, Excel-based templates.
  • AutoCAD is a plus
  • Verifiable references.
  • Insurance-approved driving record
  • Obtain and maintain military base access
  • Extensive knowledge of all construction activities
  • Is proactive, plans well, and addresses problems promptly
  • Is committed to doing quality work
  • Works to meet or beat schedules and is driven to bring closure to avoid long punch lists
  • Understand the sequencing of work and the strategy for creating effective project schedules
  • Understands project control and change order management
  • Has the ability to build effective teams, to inspire others to their best, and to coach and mentor
  • Is professional in dealings involving clients, subcontractors, and co-workers
  • Can supervise and delegate responsibilities to crew members
  • Ability to deal with all aspects of subcontractor scheduling
  • Computer literate so that completion of all electronic forms, reports, and documentation are completed accurately.
  • Current safety credentials to include OSHA 30 1, 1st Aid, and CPR

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or walk; talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses.
  • Hearing should be excellent or corrected by audio device.
  • Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed to perform job tasks
  • Employee is regularly exposed to loud noise, dust, airborne particles, fumes, and various types of smells
  • Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and high precarious places
  • Employee is regularly exposed to a variety of inclement weather conditions such as: cold, wet, hot, and/or humid conditions
  • Employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area
